Uno. El Pícaro

¡Madre mía Qué vida! I was kicked out onto the street, Patitas en la calle; cabrona; how could she do that to handsome little me?

What a poor abandoned wretch I was; ¡mi madre la puta!

This is my book; this is my story; this is me: Vinicio. Come with me, back to my past when I was ten-years-old, belonged nowhere and was wanted by no one; come and see through my eyes; see Spain, London, Rome and Paris as they were in my childhood when my life was juggled between good and bad, right and wrong: life and death.

The pages of the first chapters of my life had already been scrawled over, the edges marked, turned, ripped and torn out indiscriminately; other lives had written my character for me; they had made themselves look stronger, by making me appear weaker; more desperate: vulnerable. But there were others who treated me as a boy and I gained confidence, so that my story, my life, on completion might not be worthless.
