For my Daughter, Emily.

The big day is almost here. Feelings of excitement, anticipation, and dreams coming true are in the air, but so are feelings of fear, worry, and apprehension.

For many new college students, this is their first time away from home. As you prepare to live on your own, or mostly on your own, there will be many firsts for you. Perhaps you are worried about doing your own laundry, or shopping on a budget. Maybe keeping a schedule and combining study time, work, and play time straight is a concern of yours.

And what in the world are you going to eat? Do you just go to the school cafeteria every day? Or do you buy a burger and fries? What about eating a quick sandwich? Will you spend all your extra money the first month of school eating junk food and then have nothing left?
