Memory plays tricks, especially in dreams. The man who calls himself Austin Texas has a gift for seeing the tricks. He knows, as he sits watching a movie in a celebrity's mansion, that he should be seated only with the 12-year-old girl who will become his sister-in-law, not with his future wife as well. And what he feels as the pallid figure shambles in is something he has no memory of, unless it is in this dream: Not just fear, but an overwhelming urge to run.
