Game Testers”

"I roll...a one. Fuck," said Tom. He crumpled an innocent Mountain Dew can in his fist and tossed it over his shoulder, where it joined a half dozen others. Even more would join them before the end of the night. He opened another, one-handed, and took a long swallow. "What's the damage, oh high poobah?"

Behind his game-master screen, Jacob sighed. "Just GM, or hell, why not use my actual name?" Tom smirked and I smiled a little myself. It was late, and Jacob was a bear when he was tired. Lucas just kept on puttering with his sheet, not paying any attention to us. Good thing we were almost done.

The four of us tested game systems. We weren't big names in the real world, but most of the roleplaying publishers knew who we were. We were creative enough to make some good suggestions, and we did our level best to try and break the systems we tested. The four of us had been thrown together by accident years ago, answering an ad that Jacob had posted at a local game store about wanting some game testers (serious applicants who were willing to work for free only).
