The world into which I was so boldly venturing was going to be wonderful.

I had managed to get a seat in the front row of the aircraft. I always pre-booked seats when I bought flight tickets. That meant I had the choice of where I sat rather than have to fight and push my way on board.

The aircraft was parked on a remote stand at Bangkok’s International Suvarnabhumi Airport. As I snuggled into my seat, stretching my legs, I saw two buses arrive with the remainder of my fellow passengers. The flight was full.

The Captain announced that the aircraft was pushing back and asked the cabin crew to set the doors to automatic. The tall Thai stewardess swung into action, crouching down she secured the bar that controlled the automatic slide.
