Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town in Maryland. My grandfather and his father before him were both writers of articles, authors of books, and editors.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
After taking a writing class for a few years I learned about Smashwords, and how others were being successful in self publishing.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I wrote a humor column for three years that brought laughter, enjoyment, and positive feedback from folks. This encouraged me to branch out and write mystery stories because they are my favorite genre.
What are you working on next?
The third book in the Agatha Larsen mystery series.
Who are your favorite authors?
Agatha Christie, Mary Higgins Clark, Eugenia Price, Emily Brightwell, Lilian Jackson Braun, D.E. Stevenson
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I am in a dulcimer group where I play the dulcimer, the baritone ukulele, and the mandolin for several nursing homes in the area as well as for special events in the community. I teach music to pre-schoolers, ages 2-4.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I look for mysteries on the internet.
How do you approach cover design?
I took a photography class and learned a lot about picture taking. That has encouraged me to take pictures specifically for the purpose of designing a cover.
What do you read for pleasure?
Mysteries.
