Interview with C.S.Hirons

What are your five favorite books, and why?
I loved Max Remy and Judy Moody when I was younger and they are still fantastic! I'm sadly only just getting into Harry Potter but of coarse it is brilliant as well. I'm reading Fangirl at the moment which is so perfect as its all about a girl who writes fan fiction but with all that teenage drama as well. And lastly, Everything Beautiful was a book i found in the library and it was just lovely. I love finding a book tucked away in the back of a library shelf and falling in love.
What do you read for pleasure?
Fiction! Fiction is beautiful for getting away and being somewhere amazing. However I have just discovered Fan Fiction which is amazing! I always got annoyed that Peter Pan never picked a girl but Fan Fiction lets your favourite fiction live on and thats amazing!
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I love my iPad because it's big but i don't think i'll ever get over real books. Ebooks are great and super handing but paper will always be my first love :)
Describe your desk
My desk is too small! It has a couple of containers for my documents and things and then a photo of the boyfee, a little clock and pens/pencils and then there is only just enough room for my laptop. My fish, Otto has been moved to the bed side table unfortunately. But above it is a painting i got from a Frankie magazine of a desk with a cactus on it and a typewriter. Its beautiful, its what I hope my desk looks like when I'm a successful writer.
When did you first start writing?
I think I was writing since I knew how. I wrote short stories at school and I just enjoyed it so I started doing it in my free time. Then i really got hooked and I prayed and wished and begged that it would be my job so I wrote and i researched how to be a writer until I found a way. I have just published my first work and I could not be more ecstatic. This is my dream and its slowly becoming a reality.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love writing fiction and creating a new world and a new story and new characters. I love creating characters. I sketch them first and scribbled down their personalities and all i need to know about them. I created sim versions of my characters for my upcoming novel 'Creatures' just so i could watch them behave. You wouldn't believe how annoyed I was when they started flirting with the wrong person. Fictions amazing because I can create whatever I want for whatever reason I want.
What are you working on next?
I have only just begun so I have plenty of stuff waiting for me to get back to. 'Creatures' is something i'm very passionate about and I don't want to publish it until i know it is exactly how I want it. Before that i'm going to publish a Christian dating book and I have another fiction novel i've just started, kind of a teen 'Jane Austen Book Club' but with Kindles and Fan Fiction. I'm excited about that one! :)
Who are your favorite authors?
I love C.S.Lewis and that he can write novels like Narnia that are for everyone but hold the Christian message. I love that. I think since school i've had to focus on school novels and not having time to read what i'm interested in. I miss reading Max Remy because it was exciting. Iv read to much Austen and Shakespeare and I need some more J.K.Rowling and John Green!!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Alarm clock? The fear of being late for work? Its a new day I have things to do, books to write, assignments to finish. There are so many things to do and on some level i enjoy them, or i wouldn't do them. I don't think I have a problem getting out of bed but its always nice to think 'i'll get some work done then i can sit with my fiction'.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Working, assignments, study, scripture, kids church. I'm doing a ministry coarse which is cool and i work at Maccas in the morning which is less cool. I spend a lot of time with kids, kindy scripture and kids church which I love. I thick id like to write some kids books some day too.
What is your writing process?
I sit and I smash it out. I get the story out and onto paper until it has a whole timeline. I don't stop to edit I just smash it out and then once thats done I can do all the editing and fixing. That's where i'm up to with Creatures and its such a killer because when you edit you want to change and add heaps of stuff and you feel like it will never end. But when Creatures is finished I think i'll be the happiest person in the world :D
