Interview with Edit Torma

Published 2019-12-19.
When did you first start writing?
I wrote stories as a child, then I stopped it, and I began it again as a teenager.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I'm a huge fan of Laurence Fishburne so I'm writing a novel about his life and there are also some fictions in it because I don't know everything about him of course; I only know him as a fan, by reading his bios, interviews and news on the internet and watching interview videos with him.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When I write, I empathize the "world" I write about and I love these words I write about, this is why I write about them. I love that girlish feeling that is in Girl World's two vols; I love that beautiful, romantic feeling that is in Hard Love's two vols and I'm a very-very big fan of Laurence Fishburne so I love to write about him. And also, I love when I happen to feel like I do it well.
What are you working on next?
I have already answered to this question. I'm writing now about Laurence Fishburne's, the actor's life about that much how people can know him from the bios, news and interviews and I'm also writing some fictional stories about him because I'm only one of his fans so I don't know him personally.
Who are your favorite authors?
My only favorite one is Danielle Steel. I've been reading her books for many years I and love them. This is so exciting, and also, it's a shooting feeling to me, to read about other people and not thinking about my problems, just thinking of if what will happen next in the book. And I love that she writes that way like it would be real; like it would be really happening right now, in the reality; and one can't guess what will be happening next in the story.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I learn English because I'm Hungarian and meet my only friend once in some weekends. We chat, walk and sometimes go to the cinema, watch a movie at home or play a board game. My friend is only one year younger than me and we are friends for a lot of years, by a common friend we used to have. My sister is also one of her friends so sometimes we meet three of us.
I watch a Hungarian TV series every weekday. It's on TV for more than 10 years and I watch it almost from its beginning. Sometimes I watch different movies which interest me, on TV or in the cinema; I mostly watch romantic movies, sci-fis and disaster films and I always love such movies where one of my favorite actors: Laurence Fishburne, Rachel McAdams or Amanda Seyfried plays in. I also watched CSI and Hannibal and sometimes watch Black-ish, also because of Laurence Fishburne. :)
I listen to the music very much; I mostly listen to pop music. My favorite singer is Shakira, I have a lot of CD's of her.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I think the first story I wrote when I was a little girl, was a sad love story about a 15-year-old girl who felt unrequeted love towards one of her class-mate who was dating with another girl.
Whad do you think, what would Laurence Fishburne think about it if he heard about you've written some novels about him?
I hope very much that I won't insult him with anything I've written about him, his family and friends and I'm so sorry about it if I insulted him with anything. He is a so wonderful person that can't write it in any novel how much wonderful he is, and I'm sorry about it. I try not to insult him with anything because it's very important to me what he would think about the novels I've written about him because I don't want to him to be angry with me because I'm a huge fan of him.
What do you read for pleasure?
Novels; mainly romantic and Danielle Steel novels. But nowadays I don't have time and money to read.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
No, I don't.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I don't have any favourite book. I only have a favourite author, Danielle Steel.
