Interview with Geoffrey Thorne
Published 2013-09-13.
When did you first start writing?
As a child. I can't remember a time when I wasn't writing a story of some kind.
What do you read for pleasure?
Scifi and Urban Fantasy.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
The Count of Monte Christo – because I'm a believer in revenge as long as it's well planned and flawlessly executed.
Parable of the Sower – because it provides a much better story and ethical operating system than any of the bibles I've read.
Nicholas Nickelby - because it proves a normal life can also be a grand adventure.
Nine Princes in Amber – because it was the first time I was exposed to what is now called "Urban Fantasy" and it remains one of the best examples of the genre ever written.
A Wizard of Earthsea – because it presaged my own life story and, in many ways, defines it to this day.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
no preference.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I participate in web forums and make promotional YOUTUBE shorts. So far that's largely it.
Describe your desk
A roiling pit of chaos.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Increased control of my work and impatience.
What are you working on next?
Next up-
A new installment of my FRINGE SPACE series of novellas.
How do you approach cover design?
Carefully, with a bullwhip and a gun.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Having written a lot in the STAR TREK universe for Pocket Books, I wanted to try my hand at a more personal-to-me sort of "space opera." FRINGE SPACE is that try.
