Interview with Gabrielle Starr

Published 2014-04-11.
What do your fans mean to you?
Fans of my work to me are like minded souls. By reading my stories you are learning about me and my past, my highs and my lows. I would like to think a fan of my stories is one because they can resonate with them.
What are you working on next?
A horror based in a hospital.
Who are your favorite authors?
Virginia Andrews, Stephen King, Stieg Larsson and Richard Laymon.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I wouldn't say 'inspire' but my two children definitely know how to get me out of bed.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I work part time at the moment, and any free time is spent doting on my wonderful family or indulging in my hobbies of learning 12 languages, linguistics, going to the gym or meditating. I don't sleep much.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Generally by accident or referral. I don't usually seek out new ebooks unless there is something available from one of my favorite authors.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I have been writing stories since I could write, so no.
What is your writing process?
I have tried disciplined writing (1/2 hour every night) but it doesn't work for me. I just grab the nearest pen and scribble when my mind is racing, then try to get it to make sense later.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I didn't have the most pleasant upbringing. I cannot remember the first story I ever read but I do remember books were my escape. I would immerse myself in a book and hide there as long as I could.
What are your five favorite books?
Garden of Shadows, Life of Pi, Flowers in the Attic, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest and Body Rides.
Describe your desk
