Interview with Genevieve Lilith Vesta

When did you first start writing?
I began writing when I was ten years old when I wrote my first story about my grandmother for school and my teacher liked it a lot; she told me that I should write more stories and so I took her advise and began writing children's stories.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is a romance, something I never attempted before because I usually write horror. My cousin gave me a bunch of romance books to read, I usually read horror but I had read every book I had so I was bored and thought why not. As I was reading them, ideas continually popped into my mind about plots for my own romance. I decided to try and go for it, of course it is a Gothic romance and dark, it sounded real good too. But I think it may be the last one I write, it was much more difficult to write this one than any of my other books.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
It is less work than sending out my books to a bunch of publishers, LOL!!! It takes a lot less time to get my books out for the public's enjoyment and I can be more personally involved in my own book. The part of being an indie author that I am not thrilled about right now is the self promotion, I seem to have difficulty with that aspect of it but I am working on it!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being lost in my own stories!!!! Also the enjoyment of those who read my books and loved them, I like to make my readers happy!!!
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean the world to me, they are the main reason I write so they too can get lost in a new world right along with me.
What are you working on next?
I have a few books that I have started but never finished, so I figured it would probably be a good thing to finally complete them; one goes back to 1985. After I am done with them, I am going to begin work on the third book in the Witches of Venus series!
Who are your favorite authors?
Stephen King is my hero!!!! It was thanks to him that I found my true calling with horror. I was writing children's stories until I read Pet Sematary; after I closed the book I thought, I can do that and I have been since that day!!!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
On a day off, knowing I have a whole day of writing to enjoy!!!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Spending time with my children, listening to music, cleaning the house or working!!!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
It was about how badly I was treated in school and how my grandma who worked there would try to protect me until she was unable too because she had passed away and I was alone to face the bullies, but I dealt with it because she also taught me to not give a shit what other people thought of me because I was special and they were just jealous.
What is your writing process?
I would start with an idea and began brainstorming about what happens. I write a summary for each chapter about what goes on in that chapter. I then just write and go with the flow and wherever it leads, sometimes I go by my summary but usually it ends up going elsewhere. I always write out the whole book in long hand and then type it on the computer as the first edit. I then read and reread to fix it up and perfect it!!!
