Interview with Georgia Tribell

Published 2013-09-23.
What do you read for pleasure?
Mysteries are my all time favorite read. Now, my twist on this is, I ready romance, science fiction, futuristic, paranormal and historical. As long as the story is wrapped around a mystery - I'm game.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have both a Nook and Kindle. My Nook is the oldest device and isn't in color but it light weight and has a very long battery life. My Kindle is full color and of course allows me to keep up my social media addiction. I truly don't have a favorite, but I do always have one or the other with me at all times.
Describe your desk
My desk totally reflects my current state of life. When it's clean and organized - so is my life. When it's cluttered, you know my life has gotten crazy and I'm running around like a mad woman.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I'm a Texas girl, born and raised. I grew up with a father who when he brought home my first car showed me the keys and told me I could have them when I changed the oil, replaced the sparkplugs and could change a tire. I managed all those items in one weekend and was soon driving around town in a baby blue Gremlin and was proud of my accomplishment. This is just one example of how I was raised to take care of myself and is a huge part of my writing. Being strong and independent is a large part of who my characters are and who I want them to be.
When did you first start writing?
I've had stories in my head for as long as I can remember. I didn't actually start putting stories onto paper until I had babies and had many sleepless nights. It's amazing, or scary, what the sleep deprived brain can come up with.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
There are only a few publishing houses but there has to be a zillion authors out there. Now with the indie market there are so many more ways for authors to get their story out and to keep the story as they envisioned it. The only editor is the one in my head, the only mold the story must fit is mine and the only people I must please are my fans.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When I hear from a fan how the story made then laugh or cry or both that's what makes me happy. It also gives me the motivation and desire to keep plugging away at it.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My alarm clock is what gets me up, I'm not a morning person by nature. But once I've downed enough caffeine to get the brain going I can't wait to see what I can accomplish that day. From talking to my two college age sons to managing to get a few pages of a story done all give me, it's the unknown possibilities that get me up and moving.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When not writing I'm either spending time with family, working on the never-ending-must-do list we have, floating in our pool or reading. I try my best to avoid anything close to housework.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it was a mystery based here in Texas. I hand wrote the story while riding the bus to and from work in downtown Houston. It took me several spiral notebooks but I finally finished the story. I still have those spiral notebooks and maybe one day I'll open them up and see what's there. Who knows, there might be magic in those dusty old books.
