Interview with Crystal Braxton

Published 2013-10-31.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I was trying to find an inexpensive way to publish (inexpensive based on my budget at the time). I believe God led me to Smashwords as I was doing an Internet search! Furthermore, it's so great to have so much control over your books plus quick upload to the website!
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has contributed to my success just by its very existence --- the guarantee that my work will be accepted! Moreover, I have been given the opportunity to receive free publishing, distribution to major retailers around the world, and marketing guide! Also, I can not forget quick publishing! Thank you so much! I thank God for Smashwords!
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Demopolis and Eutaw, AL. Since I was a very little girl, I had a natural love for reading and writing. My English teachers played a major role in my life, starting with my mother and grandmother! My high school English teachers had such an impact on me that I chose to pursue a degree in Secondary Education - English Language Arts; however, I graduated with a bachelor of arts in Communication Studies with a minor in English. Finally, my college English instructors really helped me to become a much better writer (one instructor advised me to get help at the Writing Center at my college which I did). I thank God for everyone who has helped me in my journey! (I'm still learning! I'm a student-teacher for life!)
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
It is writing with God!
What's the story behind your latest book?
I believe God wanted me to share the truth about the tithe in a very orderly and simple fashion. It is important for us to understand the origin, context, and intent of a law; moreover, we should make sure that the law is still in existence. We should allow God to give us wisdom -- when and how to use a particular Scripture.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 Amplified Bible (AMP)

16 Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action),
17 So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
God.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have to laugh at myself on this one because I'm like a bridge between generations! I actually prefer holding a book in my hands yet my first books are ebooks! However, I am thinking about getting a Kindle or Nook. I did download Adobe Digital Editions to look at my book, and I loved it!
