Interview with Harper Bliss

Published 2013-09-09.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The idea of creating a whole new world and characters out of nothing, plus the fact that I can make those characters do whatever I want.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything, because without fans I wouldn't be able to write. I take great care to reply to every single message I get, never missing an opportunity to thank the wonderful people who read my books.
What are you working on next?
I'm currently working on a novelette called 'I Still Remember', which is drenched in nostalgia (and inspired by the song with the same title by Bloc Party) and may well be my favourite story ever (but then again, I always say that.)
Who are your favorite authors?
Kristina Lloyd, Sommer Marsden, Alison Tyler, Laila Blake and Cheyenne Blue. All marvellous literary erotica writers who inspire me to become better every day.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Writing, of course. I fully realise I have the best job in the world and that I'm so lucky to have all my time to devote to it.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Running Ladylit, our lesbian erotica press, and A Hotter State, our new erotica imprint. Watching The Great British Bake Off. Hiking through the breathtaking countryside of Hong Kong. Training for a marathon I'll probably never run.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Gosh. Yes, unfortunately... a tortured tale of unrequited love (of course). ;-)
What is your writing process?
Sit down. Switch on Anti-social to minimise distractions and... type! Yes, it's that easy. (The difficult part comes later.)
What do you read for pleasure?
Since I write erotica, I read a lot of it as well. When I really need to take a break from it, I tend to read something different like crime and spy novels. I loved Red Sparrow and am currently discovering the very unglamourous, but captivating universe of George Smiley.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle Paperwhite! It allows for very late night reading without disturbing your partner, aka it's perfect! ;-)
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Without a doubt: permanently free titles!
