Interview with Laurie Izzy

Published 2015-02-25.
When did you first start writing?
I think I started writing when I was about five after I received my first diary as a gift. From there I wrote down all the lyrics to my favourite songs on the radio - line by line. Maybe that's why I have such a connection to music - it's a beautiful blend of sound and words. Someone once said, music is what feelings sound like. As such, I've included links to a variety of songs (movies and books as well) throughout each Volume to share additional perspectives about a particular subject. The music provides a soundtrack to the books and helps them come to life.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Hmmmm. Aside from being rejected or ignored by over 50 Publishers? (insert grin) You know what they say. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. I figured if they didn't want to take a chance on the books, then I had to take a chance on myself. For those who self-publish - they've got a little more grit than the millions of un-published authors who gave up based on third-party opinions. For every book, there is a reader, even if it's only one. If your words need to get out there - they will find a way.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When I'm writing, I am somewhere - anywhere - everywhere - a place where it feels as if there is no time, no space, no worries, no fears, no criteria, no rules and no restrictions. When I write, I feel free to be exactly who I am and express exactly what I think.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
To help inform and heal the world, one thought and one word at a time.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Outdoors!
