Interview with Lora Lindy

What is your e-reading device of choice?
I love my kindle!
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
My sweepstakes has been successful. It continuous and a new winner is picked quarterly.
Describe your desk
Um... do I have to? Books are stacked everywhere. Piles of papers are ready to be filed that will get done before the end of the year. My old timey record player sits in the corner with the band Bread album sitting next to it. It was the last record played. Several albums are unorganized on the bottom shelf. HOWEVER, all the pens and pencils are properly tucked away in the draw.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Oklahoma, and loved visiting family. I have so many wonderful memories of those more calm and happy times, and that was my biggest influence. We all have fond memories from our childhood, and we pass them along to our children and grandchildren. I went a step further and wrote about some of my funniest moments. The Party Line was based on true events.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I ended the Days Trilogy with Four Days: The Revenge. I love the Cape Cod area and reading on the beach. Several years ago, I was walking along the beach late in the evening, and in the distance a man was walking towards me. We were the only two on the beach. With the sun setting on a brisk fall day, my imagination ran away with me. At first I imagined him as a long lost love who searched for me and found me. Then I imagined he was a stalker who finally found me. With my mind going crazy, I read everything I could get my hands on about Cape Cod and romance. Then I searched for books on stalkers and Cape Cod. I found nothing. This caused me to retreat to the bed and sulk for days... not really. Not being able to find any books on stalkers and Cape Cod -- I wrote my own. Book one turned into two books... then three. I loved the characters so much, I couldn't stop at one book.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I don't know yet --- hopefully they contribute a great deal! I'll update this after a few months.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The fans loving the books! Yesterday I got an email from a fan named Sue, and she told me she had never cried so hard after finishing Eleven Days: An Unexpected Love. Those words gave me great joy. A few days ago a fan named Kathy sent me an email stating that she had stayed up all weekend reading all three books. She had to know the ending and asked when the next book was coming out. Those words gave me great joy. Yep, the fans give me the greatest joy!
What are you working on next?
A book called Visions. It's a new series called Trapper Clark Thrillers. This particular one is a paranormal thriller. It's about a girl named Magnolia Tree who talks to spirits, except one spirit tells her something that's life changing. This book will be published by February 14. It will be listed within a few days for preorder on Smashwords.

I'm also working a book called The Oak Tree Letters. It's about a girl named Arabella who finds old love letters in an old trunk stored in the attic. The love letters are dated to the civil war. Arabella has to find out what happened to the couple. This book will be ready for preorder by March 30.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love to travel. My favorite place is Pompeii, Italy. I've backpacked across Europe and US and loved every minute. I also own a business that keeps me busy.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Word-of-mouth mostly, but I'm also a member of several book clubs, and I'm always getting information from the members.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
In second grade I wrote a story about a family who moved and got lost. The entire story was about six lines. The teacher read it in front of the class and complimented me on my penmanship. I'm sure the story wasn't that great, but she smiled while reading it. That little gesture gave me confidence. The class clapped, and that made me hooked on writing.
What is your writing process?
I try to write at least 2,000 words a day. Since I'm an early bird, I sometimes start my day at 4:00 am. I'll watch the news for a few minutes while swigging my first cup of java -- then the writing begins.
How do you approach cover design?
I try to pick a cover that best describes the story. The Days Trilogy was based at a beach house and the lighthouse played a significant role, so I had both on the cover. The Party line was based on a telephone party line in 1971, so the cover has an old rotary phone with a picture of a small town with Spiro, 1971 hand written on the cover. But I couldn't do it without Dar from wickedsmartdesigns.com. Her ideas are second to none!
What are your five favorite books, and why?
1. Gone with the Wind because I love books about the Civil War.
2. The Shining because I loved Stephen Kings inspiration -- a haunted hotel that he stayed in.
3. The Outsiders because I'm from Tulsa Oklahoma.
4. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn because I always wanted his adventure.
5. The Hunger games because I wish I would have thought of it first!
