Interview with Marcia Carrington

When did you first start writing?
I have been writing for as long as I can remember. Mostly from the age of ten onwards I began to compose story breakdowns/plans, and then translate these into stories. In high school I began writing short stories on a more regular basis, and have been writing since then.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has been wonderful in offering great exposure to my works, and, apart from this, it is very helpful in advising authors about how they can publish, and offering the tools to do this. The opportunity to have my books on Smashwords, and also distributed through the other ebook websites via Smashwords, gives writers the ability to reach international audiences, and sample their work. It is an excellent website.
What do your fans mean to you?
I love my readers, and their support and feedback means everything. They're always welcome to contact me through whichever medium they prefer, as I love hearing from them. While I write to express my vision in my stories, having readers appreciate and take the time to comment on them is thrilling, and, a helpful barometer for me in my writing.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
To see a story concept from its initial planning stages, to fruition, and that readers enjoy what I have written, and that it makes them think. Also, escaping to fictional worlds where I control the action is a great joy!
Describe your desk
It is very tidy, with a laptop, and a notebook next to it to help me keep tabs on what I would like to do with my books, and other writing related things.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
While covers do have a great degree of influence on what I eventually read, the blurb, and content of the book is probably the deciding factor for me. Apart from this, if I've read a book by an author that I like, this is an incentive to read more of their works, and, it is easy this way to become a fan of a particular author, and follow their output.
What are you working on next?
I'm preparing various stories throughout the year, being both short stories, and novelettes, and will let everyone know about these in the next few months prior to their release.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I like to keep my house spotless, and, apart from this, shopping is a favourite pastime, and, indulging in gateaux and other decadent delicacies. I also relax by watching television, and listening to music, especially on You Tube. Catching up with friends on Twitter is also a highlight of my days, and going for a drive can be very therapeutic.
What do you read for pleasure?
It really depends upon what attracts my attention at the given moment, but anything with romance, and a touch of humor are generally my favourite reading pleasures.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I read books on my computer via both the Kindle and Abode Readers, but may venture out into a reading device at some stage...
