Interview with Megan Duncan
Published 2013-08-29.
You run into a bookstore, where do you go first?
If it has a coffee joint in it, I definitely go there first. A cup of java mixed with an excellent read is heavenly. After I order myself something with lots of chocolate, I head to the YA section or to the graphic novels.
Did you always want to be an author? What would you be if you weren't an author?
Oh yes, I've wanted to be an author since the 4th grade. But, if I weren't, I would want to be a graphic artist. I absolutely love the cover design part of being an indie author. Sometimes I make cover just for fun, and that actually gives me ideas for new stories.
Who are your favorite authors?
My all-time favorite authors are Anne McCaffrey, and Terry Goodkind. I could read their stories over, and over, and over.
What do you like most about being a YA author?
I absolutely love hearing back from readers when they tell me how much they love a certain character or story. Getting their feedback really drives me forward, and makes what I do all the more rewarding.
What is in your own TBR pile?
I have a mountain of books on my TBR pile at the moment, but the ones at the top are; Disarming by Alexia Purdy, The Omen Machine by Terry Goodkind, and Jordyn and the Caverns of Gloom by Tiffany King.
When did you start writing?
I started writing in about 3rd grade, and continued on from there; writing casually, and really only for myself. It wasn't until almost three years ago that I took the big leap and chose to self-publish.
How long does it usually take you to write a book?
It typically takes me 3-4 months to write a book.
Have you ever had writer's block while writing?
I have definitely had writer's block. Sometimes it helps a lot for me to just step away from whatever I am working on at the moment, or to just focus on something else; whether it be another book, or just relaxing and watching a movie.
In one sentence tell readers why they should read your Agents of Evil series?
My Agents of Evil series provides a unique twist that I haven't seen in an urban apocalyptic before; no zombies, just action-packed, demon butt-kicking!
Do your characters do what you tell them to or do you find they argue back?
Heck no! In fact, they are the most stubborn people I know! lol There are times when Claire (The heroine from my Warm Delicacy Series) is a giant pain in the bum, but I love her anyway because she is so strong willed.
