Interview with S Driscoll

How do you approach cover design?
It's tough to come up with great covers. (PS I don't think mine are that great) But I like to find something that peeks my interest and points to an important part of the book.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
The Chronicles of Narnia by far. I loved reading these to my children when they were young. CS Lewis is so cool.
What do you read for pleasure?
I'm a big James Patterson fan. If it's new it's on my nook. My other fav author is JR Rain. I can't wait for the next one.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I'm a nook man. My children all like the kindle. Right now I am using an android tablet with nook software. And yes I have to set the type to huge. Damn these old eyes!
Describe your desk
Imagine if you will a desk with wires running in every direction. A 32" monitor, my laptop, and assorted candy and Popsicle wrappers. My wife calls it the black hole.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born and raised on Cape Cod, MA. Everyone reads there. You go get your oil changed and the guy under the car has a book open on his chest. The beaches are filled with readers and book discussions are everywhere.
When did you first start writing?
When my children were young I used to tell them stories at bed time. Then I started writing them down so I could keep track of the story. Now I try to write a couple of hours a day.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Lauren Vampire Spy is a tween book written for my oldest grandchild Lauren. We get together for coffee at our favorite coffee shop and discuss the story I'm going to write. It is a special time together and we call it Authors coffee. Ren is a bright kid with great ideas for our stories.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
After I retired I wanted to focus more on my writing and I thought it would be fun to see what other people thought of my books. So Smashwords was the perfect outlet. Believe it or not my goal was a simple one. To pay for my coffee while I wrote.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
What a wonderful place to publish. It's really foolproof. Smashwords has given me a voice. BTW...I love the new design.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Watching Ren's face as she reads the latest chapters. That smile is worth the long hours and rewrites.

“The difference between humans and wild animals is that humans pray before they commit murder.” Three bodies in two states and one failed attempt share some things in common, on each pectoral muscle they have been branded, the left with an unbalanced set of scales, the right with the All Seeing Eye, and carved into the flesh between the brands is what looks like some type of writing.
