Interview with Sarah S. Vati
Published 2013-12-19.
Describe your desk
My desk? I could describe it as an ancient wooden writing desk, I think, if I could find it under the papers and books I have on it
What's the story behind your latest book?
my latest book is an art catalogue. It collects some great pieces. The story I am most fan of is in my novel, though: will it be a self-biography?
What do your fans mean to you?
fans mean everything
What are you working on next?
probably another couple of book catalogues and then possibly another novel
Who are your favorite authors?
I tend to read a lot about politics and society. I don't have a favourite fiction author though. I loved a book by John le Carré
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I don't need a reason to get out of bed...
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I design a plot, then go to the characters, then go back to th plot because the characters I have created never like it that way, and alter it. It can happen sometimes that the plot doesn't like its characters either. It's a lot of work all in all.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I think I was a child. It had to do with a fish, and I liked to describe it with bizarre adjectives.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
the first story I ever read was most probably a tale by Grimm brothers, but I wouldn't say it had a great impact on my development.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
it is a great exercise to focus on something that's completely far away from the self.
