Interview with S.S. Gee Buro

Published 2013-11-04.
Who are your favorite authors?
Mark Twain and Stephen King. Without a doubt they are the two authors that have inspired and entertained us.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, I was eleven and I wrote a mystical novel after being inspired by Roderick MacLeish's novel, Prince Umbra.
What is your writing process?
Write...rewrite...rewrite...etc. Also, this is where having a co-author helps. If I (Sarah) get stuck on a scene, Sean is there to pull me out and we bounce ideas off of one another.
Describe your desk
It is an old vanity table that has a thrift shop lamp and a broken mug filled with pens on it-and I love it!.
What are you working on next?
A story about the family who built Stone Croft. We gave little glimpses of them in My Life Untold, but just enough to (hopefully) get our readers interest. It should be out the Spring/Summer of 2014.
Do you write every day?
Yes! Even when it is the last thing I want to do. It's amazing how many excuses I can make as to why I don't have the time, energy etc. But after I sit down and start, I get excited about a scene or something a character does, and then you couldn't drag me away from my desk.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
That would have to be the act of creation-and not necessarily being the creator. The story grows and changes without my help, I'm just there to write what's happening. Sometimes I feel more like a reporter than an author.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Knowing that the coffee maker was programed to brew half an hour before my alarm wakes me and the vicious claws and teeth of Rupert (say it without an english accent and she ignores you) the feline nightmare.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a Nook and it's perfect for what I use it for. I think it just depends on what you are used to.
What influenced your genre choice?
We both have an interest in history and plan most of our camping and day trips around historical sites. Sean has always been drawn to the Civil War in particular and has extensive knowledge of the battles. I (Sarah) began writing when I was a child and have always loved it. I guess it was bound to happen that we would collaborate and write a book together.
