Interview with Bethany Daniel

Published 2013-08-30.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born and raised in Weatherford,Tx. It's a city just West of Dallas that not many people know about. Our one claim to fame is that Larry Hagman grew up here, his mother, Mary Martin, has an elementary school named after her here and she is buried here. Weatherford is also known for its peaches! I guess it influences my writing because it makes it easy for me to write about small town life because it's all I've ever known. It would be harder for me to step into the mind of someone who lives in the big city.
When did you first start writing?
Actually, in Jr High and High school. My best friend and I used to write fan fiction and make up Roleplays for shows we loved. We also eventually made up our own stories and would write our own "Stories" but more like in script form where each of us was a character and we would stay up hours after we should of been in bed just writing. It drove our parents crazy.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Disconnected is the re-telling of Reconnected from Liam's POV. I noticed on reviews and such of Reconnected that people said they felt like there were details missing and things and I felt like there was another side of the story from Liam that no one really saw. Especially the time that he and Katy were seperated and his friendship with Scott. So I felt that in writing Disconnected, I filled in that void and made the story better in adding in some extra scenes and a bonus scene at the end that leads into Book 3, Interconnected Hearts, that will be Krista and Scott's story!
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I sent my manuscript to several publishers and got the generic, auto-message of "This doesn't fit our needs right now, but we wish you luck.". So I decided to take into my own hands and self publish.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Through Smashwords I've been able to distribute to several e-tailers and been able to reach readers that I wouldn't have been able to reach just publishing on Amazon. My books have done decently on Barnes,Kobo, and iTunes.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Having fans that fall in love with my characters/story. It's amazing to read those reviews, private messages or emails telling me how the story affected someone.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything! If they never would have pick up Reconnected and read it and took the time to review or message me or whatever, I don't know that I would of gone on to write more. They made me feel more confident in my writing and want to go on.
What are you working on next?
Book 3 in my Connected series, Interconnected Hearts. It's Krista and Scott's book, I really wanted to give them their own love story. Liam and Kate will be around too :)
Who are your favorite authors?
Jennifer Armentrout, Lisa Renee Jones, Shelly Crane, Quinn Loftis, Karen Marie Moning, Cassandra Clare, Colleen Houck
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My boys, they are my everything.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading, photography, listening to music, watching TV.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it was a fanfiction my best friend and I wrote for the show we were addicted to Roswell.
What is your writing process?
I don't really have one. I let the characters guide the story, I don't have a set way I want the story to be.
