Interview with C.V. Hunt

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the country in a big farm house. The house was located about four miles outside a small town. The town had a population of a thousand people. We lived about twenty minutes from a city. I think my location gave me a varied experience growing up of seeing life in three different situations: country, small town, and city.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I didn't want to wait around for responses from publishing houses and agents. My goal was to get the story in the hands of the readers. Everything else can wait.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. It was the first book I published. I started writing later in life. Before that I kept journals.
What is your writing process?
I work a day job. Once I get home in the evenings I eat supper. After that I usually try to spend two hours a night working on something.
Describe your desk
I don't own a desk. I have a lounge chair and an ottoman. I prop my feet up and write with my laptop balanced on my legs in my living room.
How do you approach cover design?
It's different with each book. Three of my books were actual painting I did. Two books were striking photos that caught my eye. And one was done by a designer. My next book will be done by a designer.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I'm not into watching television. I'm lucky if I turn it on once a week. I spend most of my time reading and listening to music.
What do you read for pleasure?
All the time. My goal is one book a week, but I usually end up reading 100 books a year.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a Kindle Paperwhite.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Tons of different ways. I know a lot of people who write. I try to read everything they publish. Most of what I read comes from recommendations. But sometimes I stumble across something that looks interesting.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When a stranger sends me a message and tells me they just read one of my books and they liked it.
