Interview with George Feusi

Published 2013-12-17.
What's the story behind your latest book?
When my niece Jeanette past away, I felt a sense of urgency to not only share her story, but our story. Child abuse is horrible, so the more people are aware of it and can notice signs, the quicker they can help a child out of that situation. For those who have lived in it, They will vouch for me.
What was it like to grow up without a mother in your life?
Probably the worst thing that could happen to a child. When you are a child your mom is your backbone, unfortunately most children do not know this. I never knew this because my mom was murdered when was a 1 year old. Moms understand the things that dads do not. Dads can teach you how to be tough, or hide your fears, but moms teach you to own who you are. Moms are, in my opinion, the most honest to their children. They hold nothing back. They teach you that it is ok to be vulnerable to life situations. For those children that have their mother in their lives, appreciate your mom!!! You could never imagine life without her. TRUST ME
What do you believe truly happened to your mother?
I believe my mom was murdered by her husband. I know that years ago forensics was not where it is today. If it was, I believe Jerry would be behind bars. As you read my book, you realize that I only write about memories that I have. Memories are real. They are the things that no one can take away from you. They are yours. They are true.
Were you close to your niece?
No, I was not. Sadly enough, I do not believe that anyone was close to her. If somebody was close to her, she would probably be alive today. In fact, her parents would have been behind bars long ago if Jeanette had a confidant. I feel like Jeanette had nobody to talk to. We all failed her.
If you could say anything to your niece right now, What would you say?
I would apologize to her for my absence in her life. It is easy to say "I am busy" . When I was a kid, I always hoped that the right person would shine light on our situation, but it never happened. Being abused by anyone is horrible. Being abused by your parent is probably the worst. They are the ones that you are supposed to trust. Knowing what I know now, DON'T BE TOO BUSY!!!
What do you want readers to get from your book?
The truth... If you read my book, you will know. I know what happened. Read my book, and so will you.
Any final thoughts for your readers?
Love your kids. Let them know that they are safe and loved. But more than anything, Pay attention to your surroundings. If you think there is a problem or situation, PLEASE approach it. you are probably right. THAT KID IS RELYING ON YOU TO SAVE THEIR LIFE!

When my mother's body was found dumped on the side of a river road, I was just a year old. As difficult as that was to deal with, the child abuse we would endure made things that much worse. But when my sister brutally murdered her 15 year old daughter in 2009, I realized just how much worse our upbringing was for her. Come read what happened inside our walls.
