Interview with Lalla Squeglia

Published 2014-01-07.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
'Recommended for you', mostly. Or by scrolling through the free books.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. It was terrible. It starred a bunch of my stuffed animals and a fairy. *laughs* At least the spelling was all right.
What is your writing process?
I sit down, squirm a bit, get up twenty times for a drink/my headphones/whatever, and just write whatever comes to mind. After the first draft is done, I leave it alone for a few months-at least-before coming back to polish it up.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
No-I was an early reader. The Sherlock Holmes stories had a massive impact, however. I was writing Holmes fanfictions when I was twelve or so.
Describe your desk
It's small-a bit too small, really, but I like it anyway. There's a pineapple lamp in the top left-hand corner, an ampersand paperweight in the top right-hand corner, and my laptop's fan in the middle.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I have no idea. It just sort of worked out that way.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being able to sleep at night! Seriously, my brain won't shut off, so I have to get all the ideas out in the daytime.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I like to sew, cook, read...oh, and video games. Even if Waluigi always cheats me out of my victory.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Oh, my Kindle. I love my Kindle. Never leave home without it.
What do your fans mean to you?
They make me feel all fluffy inside.
