Interview with Pierre Du Plessis
Published 2015-01-23.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
The great success I had with the study techniques I had developed in the past, inspired me to share it with other young persons in the world. What better way is there than a book?
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
By making my work available all over the net on other web sites.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I am not a fiction writer, so I usually concentrate on technical things like hobbies and crafts, but I am also a study freak and have written many training manuals on different management and leadership topics. My joy is helping people through my writing work and manuals.
What do your fans mean to you?
One happy fan gives me great pleasure. Each person happy enough to be associated with me will surely encourage new visitors, more buyers and readers and growth in fans.
What are you working on next?
I am busy with a video series on Performance Management and writing a training manual on Lean Manufacturing.
Who are your favorite singers?
My favorite songs mostly come from days gone by.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
New goals for the day, which I already thought about and planned out the previous night
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I usually alternate between writing for an hour and relaxing with another activity for about a half hour. It also gives one a chance to reflect on possible improvements of the writing.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I used to read fiction in my young days, but now I mostly read about things to broaden my knowledge on technical matters and business leadership. I discover what I am looking for through searches on the net.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
No, it must have been in primary school and it must have been in an essay round about 1953.
What is your writing process?
If you first get the table of contents right, the rest usually follows automatically, on condition you have already gone through all the input information you want to use.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
For me it was Tarzan and the apes protecting others.
How do you approach cover design?
I get the images from free resources and then use it with my own PC software.
What do you read for pleasure?
Apart from learning new things on technical issues, business leadership and training I relax most with adventure stories.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Adobe Acrobat Reader offers big size views, which helps for persons with eyesight problems.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
1. Wide distribution through internet e-book sellers
2. Make other books available for free and advertising inside those books with links to your other books' order pages.
Describe your desk
Full of PC's, printers, scanners and music gadgets.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I mostly grew up in rural areas inside military camps surrounded by many farms. Our plot inside military camps offered us the opportunity to cultivate a small portion of land and to keep chickens, cows, sheep and horses. To this day I also have a keen interest in farming. I guess the experiences from these times could possibly be helpful in dreaming up stories for writing fiction, if I can find the time and creativity.
When did you first start writing?
When I realized I am sitting on an explosive study technique round about 2009.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Previously I mostly wrote training manuals. The latest is study techniques.
Who are your favorite authors?
Anyone writing adventure fiction.
What is my deepest wish?
I sincerely hope my writing information can benefit readers to a better future.
