Interview with Josephine Rosenburgh

Published 2014-04-30.
What do you do at present?
I work in a computer store in California. I enjoy it and luckily the store has remained in business still. I'm a techy person.

However, I'm not your average store worker. People who work in stores don't normally write books on encryption. I have a natural flare for mathematics, greater than most people, although I'm not a mathematician. I didn't want to be a computer programmer or a web designer, however.
How did you get the idea for the book's cover?
I just did the first thing that came into my head, same as everyone else. I've never designed book covers before or anything like that and I didn't have time to try out hundreds of different designs, so for the people who don't like it tough. It also looks horrible seen as a very small image and it's not designed for viewing in grayscale. The picture really makes use of every pixel of the 2560 pixel height. A pixel height of 2400 would not have been good enough. With an even bigger pixel height the picture would have incorporated even more spokes and would have looked incredible.

I do wonder what people will think of it. In my mind I did imagine someone who looked at it for the first time asking their trusted partner to verify that the colors were in the true order.

I did create a version of the cover with three bars in a line but in the end decided against using it.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I thank Smashwords and its creator, Mark. They have done everything for indie authors. Every indie author would want to publish here.
What would you like to do if you had no money worries?
I would want to travel. I'd love to visit Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Of course, many people have already visited those places but not me yet. Perhaps I should also add Paris and Peru!
Do you have any other writing ambitions?
I did write the script for another book, a printed one. Unfortunately, the literary agents I sent it to felt it wasn't amazing enough to take a risk on.

I saw a video on YouTube where a man talked about ebooks. That gave me the idea for writing one. I had the idea for writing a book on password systems for some time after reading various articles about cryptography. I just never thought about writing it as an ebook.

I'd like to write professionally. I've applied for various freelance writing jobs without success. I'll keep applying.
Any other points?
Only one. If you have an important reason to attract my attention then make a YouTube video with my name as the title.

All the best. Happy passwording.
