Interview with Cheyene Lopez

What is your e-reading device of choice?
Amazon's Kindle Fire.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Well, right now my best selling book is an e-book titled Camille: Category 5 a true story book about the most powerful hurricane ever named Camille from 1969 to which the paperback edition of this book is published on CreateSpace.com and Amazon.com. The e-book edition of this book is published on Amazon Kindle. I have two radio interviews from 2013 under my wings which went world wide. I think the greatest word of advertising and promoting is by word of mouth which you tell people about your works. Don't get me wrong the internet is a great tool of works for us book authors. And yes I am all over the world on the internet and numerous publishing companies to which I publish with. I am on numerous author sites. But I feel another area is that the press has to do more to offer us some sort of free announcements by publishing our books releases in magazines or newspapers or radio and television or else there is not going to be much of any chance for us the smaller independent book writers to be heard from. But its like I said its hard work to market and finding the right opportunities.
Describe your desk
Cluttered. Its constantly cluttered. But I keep getting these never ending ideals in my head and heart to create and write. I am like a walking computer. I have to go with my instincts and feel even if to scribble them down on some peice of paper which most of the time ends up in some pile.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
My first works were poetry. I grew up in the mountains of northeastern Alabama. I grew up in a small town in north Alabama of Collinsville, Alabama. I always loved the woods, hills, the mountains, Weiss Lake or just to hear airplanes flying over on a clear blue day. Often I went off to those old hills where southern pines stood tall to the skies. Most everyday after doing my chores I would take a pad and to write on or to draw on with a pencil. I always had to write my thoughts down as I had so many going on inside me. It was then and there I knew I wanted to be a writer. Why? Because I could writer better what I had to feel and say in powerful words of forms of poetry which I write freestyle none rhyming poems. I write best about nature and the south. I just have a certain feel to it in beauty to which I believe in myself. I write what I feel in my works from heart. I was a junior back at Collinsville Alabama at Collinsville High School when I wrote my first poem which was alove sonnet. Most people gave up on me. I was in English class and I will never forget my teacher. Mrs. Bailey who helped me find myself. I also give God blessings for which if it were not for him I would not have the gift to be a writer today. More than all I owe my influence to my wife Patricia Ann Lopez whom herself is also a book writer and author publishing on the same sites as I am on too. She loves me so much and supports me through and through. And together we even design on art sites world wide and write songs together for which we sell as albums or tracks world wide as downloads. My wife is also known as Independent Recording Artist Trisha Blue Water. Check out our albums in search engines world wide.
When did you first start writing?
My first works to be published were in 1988 of one poem titled"Alabama" which was published in the World Of Poetry's Anthology book and also with the same company I won the Golden Laurete Poet Of The Year Award thehighest award one can achieve in his or her first year of writing as an amateur or professional writer. That same year with the same company I also wrote another poem titled "Crying Eyes" which won me another award, The Honorable Mention Award. Both poems were also offered to be recorded and put to music with a possible writing contract by Coltrain Records and Rainbow Records which are now out of business from Nashville, Tennessee. Also in 1988 I wrote my first manuscript titled Best Loved Poems Of Alabama to which is copyrighted and still is with the Library Of congress where it still is at today.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I am right now working on a new novel titled And Vietnam Was Over. The book is fictional and is about a character named Johnny Jules. The story takes place beginning in the 1960's.to which he is drafted to go to the Vietnam War. Some of the wars battles actually took place. So the book is also a part of history. Johnny is beaten and kept outside in the rain, storms. he is tortured, beaten, wounded physically and emotionally for all he went through and to top it all off he is even affected with agent orange. HE has a demon beast inside him which has possessed him since days growing up. He still is in the reserves when he has to be called one last time to duty in 1991 to serve in the Persian Gulf war of Operation Desert Storm. The ending is he is freed at last and comes home marching free at last even when the rains keep on falling. Now my wife as Independent Recording Artist Trisha Blue Water has an album by the same title of the book which we wrote together out on CreateSpace.com and Amazon.com. Now the book is half finished as right now I have only two more chapters to complete before the full book version is totally published. Right now I took to release half of the book out to the public on create Space. But I have to edit and change the book soon as I will have to re-upload the final and full book to republish it. So keep watch on it. I wrote the book because I have hopes to which maybe I can help Meanwhile be sure to purchase the Album to on Createspace.com and Amazon.com
What motivated you to become an indie author?
God, family most of all my wife,Patricia A. Lopez. My mother who still lives there back in Alabama today and my kids as well as grandchildren. Also my former classmates of Collinsville High School of the class of 1979.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Yes they have and Smashwords I will not stop publishing with ever. The sell for me. My first publisher to ever publish my paper back books was PublishAmerica.com now known as American Star Publishing. They published my first poetry book titled "Hearts In Alabama: Best Loved Poems Of Alabama. But I owe Smashwords my deepest thanks for my e-books. Smashwords is a terrific publisher I highly recommend to you.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Reaching the final ending of the book and I know I am about to publish my book whether it be Christian,self-help,romnace novels or westerns or memoirs and I know I am about to release any book of mine to my readers, buyers or fans. And to know I have works which sell and people buys makes me smile.
What do your fans mean to you?
Fans makes my publishing worth it all my ever effort and it makes me want to improve on my every book I write. To know that I have fans and continue to win over new ones is a milestone to me. However my ultimate goal is to have a best seller and reach the top before I leave this world to which that would be my lasting Legacy knowing I went all the way and won.
What are you working on next?
Coming I am working on to write a new western novel titled "Hawks Flat" I have a children's book to work on soon and at least one more Christian book of sermons before the years end of 2014. One in particular I look forward to writing when I have time is a fictional story which is about the new rise of the Philistine Empire. That book will leave you asking what if its not the roman empire to rise again but rather the once powerful empire of the Philistines. That book will be titled The Day The Empire Went Dry. Another book is coming titled Toss Of the Coin and book sequel to my Novels of memoirs titled Forgotten Storm and Sincerely You which the third and final one is going to be titled The Finishing Mile.
Who are your favorite authors?
Louis L'Amour in Westerns, Margaret Mitchell,Tom Clancy,Stephen King, Rev. Bi9lly Graham, Dr. Nelsen L. Price, Clive Cussler, Robert Frost,Walt Whitman, Carl Sandberg, Dr. Charles Stanley. But most of all my wife Patricia A. Lopez and her many works are my favorite. She is my favorite author.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The beautiful day outside and hearing the birds singing.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Walking and traveling,dinning out.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I hardly have time to read any works by other writers these days. The only book I have time to read is scriptures from the Bible.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I always dreamed as a boy growing up. I always imagined to what the outside world beyond Alabama looked like. I always loved to writer long essays in school.
What is your writing process?
I take my time to write because I want to edit as I go and not have to come back to edit over and over with again and again. I want it correct my first time around because that is what I feel, its just me
