Interview with Robin Nelson-Shellenbarger

How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I have certain interests and I always search them up on the internet through several sites I know that sell books. If I don't find what I am looking for I just go to another site that might have something I need.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it was about living in the 1800's on a little farm with a cute little cottage. It never was published. It was more of a short story than anything. A very primitive writing in my early days years ago.
What is your writing process?
I mostly write non-fiction books. I have interested in lots of different categories and I like to write in a step by step format. Even if I don't label in as Step 1 or Step 2 my formatting is usually what to start with first then move on to what to do next.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I know I read several books but the one I most remember was The Cabinet of Curiosities by Preston Child and that book was a wonder to me. I loved the drama, suspense and the mystery of it all and it got me hooked on their Pendergast series and I had to read them all.
How do you approach cover design?
I'm not very good at photo or picture imagination so I think of what my book is about and usually find images that best fit.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I would have to say my favorite books are all the books in the Preston Child Pendergast series. These books are so full of adventure with happiness, despair, drama and lots of action and these books keep me coming back for more.
What do you read for pleasure?
Mostly mystery novels
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Android devices, the brand doesn't make any difference to me as long as it's android capable.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Mainly Facebook I suppose. I am very new at book marketing but I seem to get traffic through my Author page on Facebook
Describe your desk
My couch! Ha, I usually find any space I am comfortable at in my home and start writing. If I know I have to do business work I have a small room and an old wooden school teacher type desk I sit at. It's very plain with only a few drawers and little space on top. My printer doesn't even fit on it so I have a wireless printer in another room. Very small but very functionable for what I need it for.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a tiny community of maybe 300 people, the next town was 30 miles away and consist of maybe 2000 people. My whole county population is small so each town in it had small populations. I think growing up on a farm and in a small community made me get out and find interesting things to do or come up with. That's how I learned about nature and the plants nature provides. Being in the forest helped me realize I had a passion for utilizing the different plants the earth provided and use them to heal or eat. I later realized I wanted to share my knowledge and experiences with everyone. I sat down one day and started to write what I knew.
When did you first start writing?
When I was 17 years old I started writing my books. None of them were finished until I was around 22 years old, but I continue to work on some I have started. I loved writing from a very young age but never put it to use until I was a late teen.
