Interview with Sean Sweeney

Who are your favorite authors?
I have quite a few. R.A. Salvatore, Steven Savile, Kevin J. Anderson, Professor Tolkien. I find that lately, I'm not reading as many traditionally published books. I'm finding them to be detail-less crap. Those four, I know I'm getting quality.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The drive and desire to create new worlds and stories. That, and my fiancee needs me to make her lunch before she leaves for school.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I take care of a small farm, and that means feeding horses, tending to the small garden, mowing the lawn. I never had a large lawn in Fitchburg, so the fact I take care of a lawn speaks volumes about my time. I do read before bed, love The Big Bang Theory, and I spend loads of Q.T. with my angel.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
There are so many different ways. For me, Twitter, Facebook, kboards.com.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I believe the first story I ever read was The Hobbit, but I was never much of a reader until the Star Wars Expanded Universe emerged onto the scene. Then I couldn't gobble them up fast enough.
How do you approach cover design?
Blindfolded. No, I try to find an image that will convey the setting. For my AGENT books, I try to find a good vertical shot of the city Jaclyn is in and send that to my Photoshop Goddess, and she takes care of that end.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
1. Lord of the Rings. I think that's self-explanatory.
2. Silver by Steven Savile. Steve had me hooked from page 3, I think. That's when... oh, maybe I shouldn't spoil that for you?
3. Libriomancer by Jim C Hines. Easily one of the top books I read in 2012.
4. Harry Potter-Sorcerer's Stone. Thought it was a kid's book. Picked it up on threat of death, couldn't put it down.
5.Star Wars The Truce At Bakura. First Star Wars EU book I read.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I'm a Kindler. I have the Kindle Keyboard (Kindle 3), but would love a Paperwhite.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I love seeing the Apple numbers tick up every month. It's a nice boost.
What are you working on next?
Right now I'm working on a murder mystery which may or may not be a novella, and then I'm going to re-charge for a few weeks. By the time this one is done, I will have written about 250K words of fiction in 2013, and I'm due for a break. But who knows... I say I'm going to take time away, but I probably won't. There is always another book out there to write, and more readers to entertain.
