Interview with Tony Crowe

Published 2013-08-27.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Whitehaven a small town in the lake district. When I was a school boy I would write some very detailed stories until one day a teacher pointed out to me my inability to spell the simplest of words. We didn't have spellchecker back then.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Building a good read from true life. Bringing a world that few will ever know to the mind of the reader.
What do your fans mean to you?
Without them What would be the point? I write to be read. To give them the experience without leaving their home.
What are you working on next?
I've just finished A Murder of Crows Deliverance and the next book is my story of life after prison with my new wife and my new life.
Who are your favorite authors?
Ha Ha Ha I have to say my wife Rita Nightingale for her book No Going Back.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The joy of The Lord easy.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
We live in Bulgaria where we are mission workers going into the prisons and the slums. Where ever the needy are you'll find us there.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I do and it wasn't that long ago. It was The Commitments. The first book I read from start to finish.
How do you approach cover design?
My covers are representative of the prison I spent so long in. The book is blue with white lettering. It reminds me of the blue prison doors with their white handles.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Freed for live, The Damage Done, They both tell the same story from two different places. The Van, The Alchemist, A Pilgrim's Progress. Great books with a great hidden message.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
The ebook removes the difficulty of publishing. In this modern age we need to be free to put out there what we think people want and not just what the big publishing houses think. They are motivated by money. Not the story.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords is a great tool. Without them I think I may have never bothered. The difficulty without them would be too much.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I go to the internet and forums
