While adore Katie's other books this is the first one that just dragged for me. I truly couldn't appreciate the heroine, I love the empowered smart if occasionally silly women they almost without fail strike a cord with me. But not this one I haven't in fact been able to bring myself to finish this book. Maybe I'll try again in a few weeks and have a different outlook. I can't say enough good things about all of the other story lines however.

All I can say is it could use a solid edit, and by that I mean it really could have been 1/2 as long and a lot more enjoyable to read. This book while truly filled with action scenes, could have left out half of the endless detail and been really terrific. I waded through on will alone sometimes, I feel the characters need more development they are amazingly one dimensional for such a long story. This story was so full of endless and often needless detail it left very little to my imagination which actually really detracted. Detail is food for the reader,
in fact that's a good analogy a book is like a meal the best ones leave you savouring not only the ingredients but how they were put together and presented. This sadly to continue the food analogy was a heavy dough overly salted meal. I'm not really up for the next instalment. Oh and I do love a long read, Heinlein, and any of the HP"s, Tolkein are good long stories and that's the point they are good and long. Good luck next time and I wish you well
