Kathleen Smith Thomas lives in Springfield, Illinois with her husband Dwight and dog Kipper. They have three children and five geographically distant, but perfect, grandchildren. She received her PhD in Humanties from Florida State University. Prior to running for the Senate, Kathleen worked at the Old State Capitol researching the people and places of Abraham Lincoln’s era.

Laura Oleen Gough graduated from Brigham Young University and later earned a Masters of Education degree at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. She is married to Jeff and is actively involved in the lives of their four amazing children. They have enjoyed living in the "Land of Lincoln" for the past eight years.
