Ambush Books is the brainchild of award-winning children’s book author Douglas Rees, his literary agent Laurie McLean, and social media ninja and agent Pam van Hylckama Vlieg. Often their luncheon conversations would involve tales of fabulous classic children’s books that were no longer available for purchase. What a shame! So Ambush Books represents their quest to bring those abandoned treasures out of the dark caves where they’ve been hidden away by publishers in order to share them with the tweens and teens of today. Ambush will also publish books in series that never saw the light of day as well as anthologies introducing new voices to middle grade and YA audiences.
Douglas Rees decided he wanted to be a writer when he was twelve. And he hasn’t grown out of it yet! He and his wife JoAnn are both librarians. Some of his award-winning books include Vampire High, Uncle Pirate, Majix, The Juliet Spell, and Jeannette Claus Saves Christmas. He’s excited about Ambush Books because he has so many writer friends whose books he can save from extinction.
Laurie McLean is a serial entrepreneur who is tickled pink by the chaos created by digital publishing technology. A lifelong reader and writer, Laurie is thrilled to be able to offer this generation’s children access to the amazing stories of her generation…and some new ones from favorite classic authors.
Pam van Hylckama Vlieg, "Bookalicious" to her legion of fans, created the leading book review blog for childrens’ books, videogames, graphic novels and more: bookalicious.org. She is a partner at literary agency Foreword Literary, and has her own middle grade and YA writing represented by Laurie McLean. Pam is also in charge of the YA section at Hicklebees children’s books in San Jose, CA. She knows children’s books, people!
