Amelia James

Biography

Amelia James started reading steamy romance novels in junior high, but her mom took them away from her, so she started daydreaming instead. After she got married, she wrote some of her naughtier daydreams down and sent them to Playgirl magazine. Two of them got published. She kept daydreaming and writing stories until her dirty stories turned into trashy books.

She lives in Colorado, but she’ll always be a loyal Wisconsin Cheesehead. When she’s not lusting after her next bad boy hero, she looks for inspiration in sci-fi and action movies, football players, bloodsucking lawyers, muscle cars, and kick-butt chicks.

Veronica Barry is an ordinary French teacher with an extraordinary gift. She sees things other people don’t see: the past, the future, and even ghosts. The only problem is she doesn’t want to see, but when lives are at stake, Veronica has no choice but to open herself up to her psychic abilities. That’s when the story gets interesting. A horrifying nightmare sends Veronica running into the night, desperate to help the woman whose murder she witnessed, but she arrives too late. The police question her, but they dismiss her dream. When Veronica’s best friend Melanie’s daughter goes missing, Veronica uses her visions to find her when no one else can. Melanie believes in Veronica’s ability without hesitation. Encouraged by Melanie’s faith, Veronica opens herself up to her gift and investigates the murder on her own. Visions of the past and visits from the victim’s ghost convince her she has to tell the police they arrested the wrong man. Detective Seong thinks she’s crazy, but even worse, his partner, Detective Felsen, threatens to arrest her for fraud. But Veronica won’t give up. Lots of internal monologue slows the pace at times, but the complicated, multi-layered plot and a diverse cast of characters come together nicely to create an engaging story. The writing suffers from weak editing, but this does not detract from the emotional punch the ending delivers.
