Angela M Bower

Biography

I was lucky enough to have been born into a family of explorers. My childhood began in London but we travelled widely between Wales, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and then Sussex.
We learnt from one another, from new experiences and from the diverse cultures we found ourselves in. Closer than usual bonds grew up between myself and my three siblings as we were the only constants among an ever changing set of neighbours and school friends.
I suppose this early exposure to the shifting patterns of life accounts for a certain restlessness of my own.
I love to write, but have never enjoyed sitting at a desk.
My first job at 16, was in the then fledgling computer industry. (No qualifications needed, no qualifications available back then.)
After struggling with that for over a year I found my niche, working in a mental hospital.
St Francis Hospital, a beautiful Victorian building, now closed and turned into flats, was my Alma Mater.
I trained as a psychiatric nurse and at last I had found the challenge and variety I craved.
Later I made the move into community nursing for the mentally ill, and married a Policeman.
Life was now satisfyingly full of variety, We raised four children, kept pets and did all the usual family things whilst juggling shift patterns and the ever changing nature of our working lives.
This idyll ended when the children grew up and left and as often happens at times of change, the adults split up. New challenges beckoned.
I learnt to sail and almost instantly found that I got sea withdrawals if I was dry and for any length of time.
A new life, a new career. Crime writing, using characters based in the two careers I know most about, has become my second passion.
I hope you enjoy reading my books as much as I did writing them!
