  • Being Neighborly on Oct. 18, 2012

I did not expect a story of only 30 pages, but I did enjoy it a lot. It was lovely strange, with little time for character building, but that was not really necessary. I liked them all, the pets as well. And how I wish for a full length novel in this world building! The ending sure makes it sound awesome. I love Anita Ensal (Gini Koch)’s sense of humor, and her way of painting a world with only a few sentences. Not going to summarize, that would be impossible and spoil too much, but well, that skillet is very important to the story! If you have half an hour to spend, you really should try this story. 8 stars full review on my blog www.boeklogboek.blogspot.com
  • Shifter Made on Oct. 19, 2012

Well, it is short, so summarizing is spoiling everything. Let me just tell you, I loved it, and it had the feel of a much longer story, as I immediately fell for Alanna and Niall. Two strangers, forced to work together by Alanna’s evil brother, but they defeat him in his purpose. Lovescene, tender scene, actionscene and a great ending. This short story has it all. And if you like Jennifer Ashley’s Shifter series as much as I do, I really recommend you read this.
  • The Royal Scam on Oct. 30, 2012

Another very short story, and another I enjoyed. When it started, I thought I knew what was happening, but I was wrong. Of course I love to be wrong, cause knowing what would be happening would make me bored quickly. The reader gets introduced to the crew of the spaceship very briefly, and they are sure a motley crew, all kinds of alien races, and only a few humanoids, or rather Martians. A good plot, some action, lots of casino’s and of course Gini Koch humor. I do recommend this if you are in the mood for a quickie.

I really enjoyed this story, with DeeDee in the lead. She is a shapeshifter, and cannot “just” alter her shape, but also her mind and thoughts, to copy those of the person or being she is imitating, gaining their strengths as well. It sure comes in handy when they have to make a quick escape from the casino. Roy is the Captain, and her boyfriend, and he is very protective and jealous of her, but she can handle him. She is more than capable of looking after herself, but sometimes it is nice to be looked after. And is there some romance in the air between two other very different crew members? It is a fast paced story, with intergalactical intrigue, and I am looking forward to the next story. Perhaps some more background on one of the other teammembers? full review on my blog: www.boeklogboek.blogspot.com

I very much enjoyed this story, the main characters are very engaging, and the story hooked me from the first page. But I really, really do not want to visit there after dark! Still, the perks of living there are amazing. It was not as creepy as I was fearing for a moment, but very intriguing and original. A typical Gini Koch book: fun, entertaining, surprising, original, with great characters, and never long enough as I always want more. And I do for sure hope on more stories within this Haunted Hotel for Active Seniors. 9 stars.
