In Bleed Country
on July 12, 2011
By far, the most memorable thing about In Bleed Country is the band of villains that pop up throughout the story – they are everything villains should be; evil, likable and brilliantly written. In some books, a reader reads to find out what happens to the protagonists, egging them on in their mind. In bleed country, I found myself grinning like a madman every time the Armada of sensation showed up. ( I suppose my grins were fitting, then.)
In bleed country is one of those books you don’t want to put down (Or in the case of an e-book, don’t want to shut off.) And on more than one occasion it drove me into the night with bloodshot eyes. I was so enjoying reading the final chapters; I secretly brought it up in class and read it instead of working.
The novel is comprised of two novellas that have been stitched together – This has been done well, and it flows brilliantly without any loss of immersion or interest. However, I did find the second ‘half’ (in search of a better word) somewhat rushed in comparison, and would’ve liked to see the two parts integrate a little more.
Overall – In bleed country is an excellent book. I rather enjoyed reading it, this coming from someone who has never really read in the horror genre before. It certainly far surpasses its price tag here.
After reading this, I’m sure to add more of Brian’s work to my reading list.
