I did my review on Goodreads when I first finished this book. I cannot say enough, nor give enough praise, to Deanna Sletten for writing this. I am so happy I won this book as an author giveaway. Had I not won it, I would never have known what an excellent writer she really is.
This is the most true, accurate picture of what HIV/Aids REALLY is. I volunteered for 9 years with the NO (New Orleans) Aids Task Force before Katrina. I have now been volunteering at a nursing home for the past 5 years and still deal with people living, and dying, with this.
DO NOT let the tile scare you away. This book is not sexually explicit nor does it use graphic language. It simply tells the story of 3 young women, 2 of their children and how this disease affected their lives both in a good way and a bad way and how it changed all of their lives forever.
I wish this could be put on teachers reading list as a MUST read for teenagers. This description of the disease and what it does to the human mind and body just might make them think twice before doing something that will either destroy their lives or end it completely.
Great job, Ms. Sletten
