Defining piece:

"The Dainty" -- a 12,000 word novella, set in 1969 Detroit: one day in an Irish Pub, and that day is Christmas Eve. The dysfunctional denizens of The Dainty plow through a fierce snowstorm, cocktails, and their personal baggage as Christmas Eve plays out before them.

I am currently at work on a memoIRISH-novel, 'Deadly Dominoes', a haunting, poignant look back on my family's checkered history. The compelling story of a Scots-Irish family whose patriarch brings them (mostly) crashing down, beginning with his one year stay in a Nazi POW camp in WWII in 1943, and culminating in his suicide 36 years later. The prologue, and first four chapters, are written and available upon request.

Many short stories of fiction, and essays on a variety of subjects, are also available.

Currently living in London, England.

Smashwords Interview

You are 53 years old. What has been the best year of your life?
Actually, that is an easy answer: 1998.

I had a little money from an inheritence, I was not in a relationship, I enjoyed my job at a weekly newspaper, and I decided to give a direct nod to my passion for romance and sentimentality and go to Paris, my first trip abroad.

Life was good. I had independence, autonomy (job notwithstanding). It was the perfect time for me to go to Paris.
And?
I finagled a month off and spent the entire month of April in Paris. Turns out the trip was much more of a soul-searching, contemplative journey than a vacation or pleasure trip.

As expected, I fell in love with the city. I had a flat in the 6th Arrondissement, very nicely centered on the Left Bank, and I walked everywhere which is far and away the best method to get a feel for any great city.

Ironically, I did very little writing in Paris. I was moved and inspired by so many things, I felt like every day I was a mirror walking down the street.

I have written some brief accounts and memoirs from that incredible month since, however.
