Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in northern Iowa in a small town. Living in a town with a dying mall and not a lot to do made reading a very large part of my life. Books became this whole other world for me and it was amazing it definitely helped me want to create those world's for other's the way the books I had read created them for me. A lot of the short stories I have written are based around small towns but as I have gotten older and began actually experiencing and living in a much larger world my writings have began to include larger city life as well, but I like to keep my writing with what I know best and that's living in the sticks!
When did you first start writing?
I started writing poetry in middle school and shortly after I wrote a children's book, which my mom just loved! Through high school I wrote short stories for class and on my own and continued my love into college where I developed my writing skills for more traditional jobs, however, I never lost the itch to create an entirely different world and get lost in it.
