Smashwords Interview

Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite authors are Markus Zusak and John Green. I loved The Messenger by Markus Zusak. I first listened to it as a book on tape, which was especially a treat, since the reader had an Australian accent. Of course, The Book Thief, is really mesmerizing and stunningly beautiful. The first book I read by John Green was Looking for Alaska, which is probably still my favorite of his, though I quickly devoured everything else he's written. Both Green and Zusak have a wonderful, tangible way of describing things. I feel like I can reach out and touch the emotions they describe, and I am often nodding while I'm reading, because they have described an exact emotion I've felt in the past. I hope to write that well.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I wrote a humorous story in computer class in elementary school, about a pig who had long legs and lived a calm life until a little girl became obsessed with him and had to have him as her pet. The story was called Pigfeet. My teacher read it to the entire class, and I was mortified, but also secretly proud that my story had entertained the class and teacher. I would love to stumble onto that story again someday, but I don't think it's around anymore.
