Smashwords Interview

What motivated you to become an indie author?
I decided to pursue indie publishing because I wanted the freedom of being independent. I'm able to write the kind of stories that I want to write and choose the cover art that best represents my books, rather than trying to conform to a publisher's expectations about what might be most financially successful.

I'm very happy being indie! The technology changes in the last decade have revolutionized publishing and made indie publishing not just possible, but an attractive option, especially for writers who may write for a smaller niche. I love hearing from readers, and I suspect I might not have as direct a connection to readers if I were traditionally published. I manage my own website at cjbrightley.com - please come visit!
What are you working on next?
I'm working on Book 3 in the Erdemen Honor series as well as a book set in the same world much later in history, with all new characters. Book 3 should be out in early to mid 2014.

I'm also working on a new Christian fantasy / supernatural thriller series. I have the first two books drafted as well as a start on the third book. I'm editing the first two in the series now while I think about how book 3 and 4 will play out. I think the series will be complete at the end of book 4, so there are a lot of threads I need to figure out. The first book should be out by mid 2014.
