C.(Kees) le Pair
Biography
C. (Kees) le Pair, is a physicist (PhD. Univ. Leiden, the Netherlands) and columnist, among else author of 'De Toekomst Achter Ons' (The future behind us, in Dutch) (BetaText, Bergen NH, 2011). After some years of physics research among which at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, he climbed the Olympic in his career as science administrator. He rowed his boat on the river that makes out the border between public and industrial governance and science. He enjoyed and grieved in turn about the strengths and weaknesses of the riverains, dwellers on the banks either side.
He was knighted O.N.L. by Queen Beatrix, honorary doctor in all faculties of Delft University of Technology, received the merit for science award of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Science and Arts etc.
The central theme in 'De Toekomst achter ons' is the deteriorating societal interest in scientific results and its consequences. The Second Apocalypse describes the catastrophic result of the new trend. It is only because of artificial intelligence that traces of civilisation are preserved.
