Charlotte Alleyn lives in east London with her partner, her baby son and a deranged terrier called Moriarty. She was born in Sumner, Tennessee, but moved with her family to England as a teenager. She amused herself through her first, long, wet English winter by reading the Collected Stories of Conan Doyle, one very battered copy of which had been left behind in the flat her parents rented when they first arrived. She has been a Sherlock Holmes fan ever since. She works in the IT department of a London library, which combines her twin passions for old and rare books and new technology.
