Like the main character in her first novel, Watch Over Thy Child, she was brought up in the Episcopal church during the fifties and sang in the children's choir. Her inspiration to write came in high school when she surprised everyone, including herself, by winning the Bishop's School creative writing club contest. Four years later she graduated with a degree in English Literature from UC Berkeley. After pursuing a career in computer programming, she returned to her true love... writing. Cathy lives in San Diego, California with her husband Barry, a child psychologist, and has one son, Nicholas Carter, who is a commercial real estate appraiser in the San Francisco bay area.
