Chariss K. Walker

Publisher info

Chariss has said that each step she's taken in life has led to this very moment. She encourages others to understand that each experience, whether considered a blessing or a mistake, was the right choice to make at that time. She says that "it's in the reconciliation and acceptance of the choices we've made that turn those experiences from fear to love." Chariss has many life lessons to share with others through her nonfiction writing.

Nonfiction books:
Make a Joyful Noise: Searching for a Spiritual Path in a Material World
Make a Joyful Noise Study Guide
Chakra Basics: Fundamentals of Spiritual Growth
The Spiritual Gifts: Understanding for the Great Shift and Beyond
Love & Sex: A Personal Journey (co-authored with David A. Britner)

Make a Joyful Noise: Searching for a Spiritual Path in a Material World, was named "Most Inspirational/Motivational Book of the Year" in the 2009 Mom's Choice Awards. Make a Joyful Noise, published April 30, 2008 and now sold worldwide has won 6 awards for inspirational and devotional reading.

Chariss also writes descriptive fiction books of interest to those in her own generation, the baby boomers or anyone in their fifties or older. Although her novels are full of suspense, mystery, and action, they are also filled with intrigue and esoteric observation covering issues that we have all faced at some point in our lives, such as doubt, suspicion, and betrayal by those closest to us. You won't find zipper-rippers or bloody gore in her novels, but you will find thoughtful and provoking situations relating to the human condition. Her characters are seasoned from their life experiences.

Fiction books:
The Retreat
The Journey

All of her books are sold in eBook and paperback formats at online retailers such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble; most are in large print also.

Smashwords Interview

What motivated you to become an indie author?
I had a lot to say and I wanted my books published immediately. Immediate publication doesn't happen right away with traditional publishers. The release date might be a year away. For my first book, Make a Joyful Noise: Searching for a Spiritual Path in a Material World, the only publisher I contacted replied that my goal of bridging the gap between the spiritual and religious world was admirable, but unparalleled and couldn't be done. I decided to become an Indie Author because I knew I could do it. I had bridged the gap in my own personal experiences and I wanted to share that with readers everywhere. The book was acclaimed and won six awards, including "Most Inspirational/Motivational Book of 2009" in the Mom's Choice Awards. It received many reader's reviews as well and I was thanked for the insight presented in the book. After my experience with publishing the first book, it was only natural that I continued with being an Indie Author. Now, with 14 additional books, and more on the way, it seems to work for me.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I have daily rituals that I look forward to doing. Most of that time is spent writing. I write daily. I schedule my writing just as anyone would schedule their work day. To me, writing is not only the creative outlet that fulfills me, it is a job, and I treat it like one.
