I'm not a science fiction fan, I find most of the worlds too dense and unfamiliar to get into--I've read a bit of Isaac Asimov, Iain M. Banks, a few short stories here and there, but that's about it. So I approached Allen's book with some trepidation. I've now finished it, and am happy to report that this book drew me in with effortless ease. There's a P.G. Wodehouse-like humor to the writing, and Allen introduces the world(s) with very little fanfare, organically woven into the action, which is the way I like it. The descriptions of the character are interesting and spot on, and the plot complications are tense and hilarious at the same time. The repeats of scenes with different POVs can be confusing at times, but it is compensated by the humor the author provides. If you're looking for a light-ish, absorbing read, check out this one. The sample should be enough to set the tone for you...and the book does not disappoint.
