D C Macey

Biography

D. C. Macey is an author and lecturer based in the United Kingdom.
A first career in the Merchant Navy saw Macey’s early working life devoted to travelling the globe. In the process, it gave an introduction to the mad mix of beauty, kindness, cruelty and inequality that is the human experience everywhere. Between every frantic costal encounter was a trip across the ocean, which brought the contrast of tranquil moments and offered time for reading, writing and reflection. Those roving days came to a close, however, with Macey serving as a ship’s officer in the North Sea oil industry.
Several years working in business made it apparent that Macey’s greatest commercial skill was the ability to convert tenners into fivers, effortlessly and unerringly – a skill that ensured Macey had the unwelcome experience of encountering those darker aspects of life that lie beneath the veneer of our developed world and brought fleeting glimpses into the shadows where bad things lurk.
Eventually, life’s turbulence, domestic tragedy and impending poverty demanded a change of course. As a result, the past decade and more has been spent in lecturing and producing predominantly corporate media resources, so allowing Macey the opportunity to return to the written word.
Throughout it all Macey is certain that a happy home and laughter have proven time and again to be the best protection against life’s trials.

Smashwords Interview

What's the story behind your latest book?
The story has a very modern setting, but it has been inspired in equal measure by two separate strands that have run through history. First, the seemingly eternal conflict between good and evil that appears to beset every generation of humankind. Second, what happened to the Templar’s vast wealth and store of holy artefacts? So many questions were left unanswered when the Knights Templar were driven into oblivion. Up to the point of their destruction, I think they had generally been perceived as a force for good; subsequently they got a rather bad press, but that may have quite a lot to do with the fact that it’s the victors who write the history.
What are you working on next?
I have finished the second book in The Temple series and that will be published this July. I have also mapped out the plot of the third book in the series; I’m quite excited about it now and will start writing the story in a few weeks with a view to publishing in the spring of next year.
In the meantime, I thought it would be interesting to explore an entirely different theme and genre. They say, a change is as good as a rest, so I’m putting it to the test. Right now, I’m writing a science fiction novella. In fact, it’s started to grow arms and legs; novella was left behind a while ago - its growth has been really quite irresistible - as the main characters have just kept demanding more story time! In any event, novella or now novel, I don’t anticipate the story seeing the light of day for some time. Once the first draft is finished, I will be setting it aside to focus on writing the third Temple book. Then I’ll revisit it when the third Temple book is done.
