Biography

D. L. Maynard has been madly in love with Yeshua (Jesus) for over twenty years. Currently enrolled at Asbury Theological Seminary, Dee is also the ministry coordinator for LifePointe Ministries, a kayak eco-tour guide, a substitute teacher, and the mother of two boys who serve as the inspiration for several of her characters. She owes a huge debt of gratitude to Bill Jamison and Bruce Marchiano for their contributions to her writing. The rest of her thanks are (hopefully) paid to date, though she does keep a running tab with most of her friends!

The illustrations alone make this book well worth purchasing. They are warm and inviting, and spark the reader's imagination to break away from stereotypes and travel in exciting directions. The story itself is perfect for a Christmas Eve read-aloud . . . gather your little ones on your lap and send them to bed with visions of shepherds and angels (rather than sugarplums) dancing in their heads! Be forewarned, though: this is a children's story rather than a Biblical paraphrase or historical treatment of the first Christmas, so expect the usual poetic license: the stable is squeaky clean and three wise men show up there on Christmas Eve. If this doesn't bother you, then EVANGEL'S CHRISTMAS will probably end up being one of your favorite Christmas story books and you will definitely want to own a print copy!
